            Utah Olympic WebQuests

 

The Utah Olympic WebQuest project focused on implementing technology and mathematics standards within the context of events surrounding the 2002 Winter Olympics held in Salt Lake City, UT. The authors designed Olympic WebQuests to provide problem-based, collaborative learning tasks that addressed specific mathematics content standards (NCTM, 2000).

 

These WebQuests were posted on the state education network Olympics website for widespread availability, and communication among teachers from different sites was coordinated. Products from students in Canada, Luxembourg, and the United States were received.

 

The authors encourage readers to use these Olympic WebQuests to inform preparation of WebQuests and to invite conversation regarding ways to utilize the 2008 Summer Olympics, Beijing, China, as a context for meaningful academic learning and collaboration.
