Llanite outcrop
(Left) Index map for finding the main llanite roadcut

Llanite is a very hard granitic rock composed predominantly of potassium feldspar and blue quartz. It is the blue quartz that makes this granitic intrusion so unique. Found exclusively in the Llano Uplift of central Texas, this rock can be obtained from only a few roadcuts along Texas Highway 16, nine miles north of Llano, Texas.
