About Me!

General: I was born March 4, 1986 in Portland, OR.  I have lived there my entire life & moved just once (only five blocks away).  Because of this I've kept many of the same close friends over the years & even remain in touch with former teachers & other mentors.  I love the laid back, Earth-friendly feel of Portland.  The blend of small community with big city make Portland a great place to live.  All of my immediate family still live in the Portland area.

School: I attended Atkinson Elementary, Mt. Tabor Middle, & Franklin High School while in Portland, OR.  The August after my senior year I headed to Provo, Utah to begin my undergraduate education.  I was a geology major (with emphasis in environmental science) from the very beginning.  I have always enjoyed science & so my major is very fitting.  However, I also love painting, making collages, dancing, & writing late at night when everyone else is already asleep.
Dragon Boat: I've paddled every year since my freshman year of high school.  Kaosiung, Taiwan (Portland's sister city) donated several traditional style dragon boats which are used for Portland's annual Rose Festival dragon boat races.  I've paddled in the more common style of boat (the less traditional "6-16") in Portland & also in Vancouver, BC.  I started on the Franklin AquaRockets team & then began paddling for Hitokumi (a relatively new alumni team).  I have called & paddled for various teams & over the years served as the AquaRockets captain (2 years) & co-coach (this year).  I love the endurance & intense mental focuse required for this sport- watching scrawny little high school kids push themselves harder than they thought they could is very inspiring.

My Favorite Things: The colour green, photography, couches, trees, pumpkins, rocks, rain, comfortable clothing, owls, faces, walking, patterns, Halloween, clouds, water, Indian/Lebanese/Ethiopian/etc. food, dancing, pineapple upside-down cake, Multnomah Falls, old rock music, watercolours, putting 'u's in words like colour & honour, my chaco sandals, swing sets, Oaks Amusement Park, renewable energy, recycling, backpacks, mud, climbing, playing Hand & Foot (a card game with 6 or 7 decks of cards!), my cat Swirley, dog heads,  thunder/lightning storms, Outdoor School, being a pretend nun with Miriam, ice cream, road trips, & doing terrible cartwheels.
The Sixteen: We are a group of friends that have known each other for varying amounts of time- some since before grade school & others met our sophomore year of high school.  Of course some of us are closer than others, but all throughout high school & the years since we have stayed very close & supportive of one another. The group includes: Antonia, Beyth, Julia, Bethany OK, Bryn, Maggie, Shawna, Lisa, Whitney, Thao, Lindy, Bethany W, Kristina, Emily, Joanie, & myself.
