My
Teaching Philosophy
Simply put, I love
science. I
love teaching science and sharing what I love with my
students. I believe learning biology and chemistry open up
the entire world to discovery and it is my goal to give my students the
tools they need to truly explore. Within each student
there is a spark of curiousity. Whether damped by sarcasm,
discouragement, or indifference, that spark is nevertheless
there. My job, as I see it, is to give that spark room to become
a bonfire.
About Me
I grew up in Taylorsville, Utah. I
attended Vista and
Bennion Elementaries, Bennion Junior High, and Taylorsville High.
I will quite frankly admit to loving school (especially science
classes)--and good thing because I'm back again--this time on the other
side of the dry-erase marker. I am currently attending Brigham
Young University and completing a degree in Biology, as well as earning
teaching licensure. (Technically my major is deemed "Biology
Composite Teaching", meaning 1) I have a main focus in biology, 2) in
addition I am completing a "composite" of coursework that will certify
me to teach most other secondary-level sciences in addition to biology,
and last but not least 3) I am also taking a gamut of education classes
to become certified.
I come from a strong and loving family. My
oldest sibling and
only brother is getting married in August, 2004 (which is very exciting
considering I was positive he never would) and moving east for law
school. My dad is a civil engineer for a private engineering
company and my mom is a homemaker, though she earned her masters degree
in business education and has taught in the past. My sisters are
absolutely great. One of my two older sisters is a busy little
mother and the other is working on becoming a photography
teacher. My two younger sisters are the coolest--they joined our
family through adoption and are now nine and ten years old.
I met my sweetheart the summer before my senior year
of high
school. He is currently serving in the Arizona Mesa Mission as a
representative for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day
Saints. His family has adopted me and they are simply
wonderful--definitely my second family. If you are
wondering: yes, I am waiting for him.
P.S. Keri Madrid is invited to the wedding. <wink & grin>
