I went to Mongolia in March of 2000 as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It was a great experience. It's kind of funny how before I went to Mongolia I never remember hearing anything about Mongolia or talking to people who had ever been there, but now I run into people all the time. I'm sorry to say it but when I found out I was going to Mongolia I thought - "Is Mongolia still a country?" I knew about Ghengis Khan and stuff, but didn't know the country was still around or where it was. So in case you ever go to Mongolia hopefully you'll be a little more informed than I was.
While in Mongolia I had a lot of great experiences. It was so much fun getting to know the people and learning their language and culture. I've lived in other countries before, but never really got to interact with the people like I did in Mongolia. It was great. It's amazing how friendly and hospitable Mongolians are. They'll invite you right into their house even if they don't know you and give you something to eat and drink. I don't remember being anywhere else in the world where people are that welcoming.
I've posted a couple of my pictures that I have here. A lot of my pictures I left back in New York, so hopefully I'll get some of them posted later. |
