The article that I read is about three North African men who run businesses in France. The first man, Yazid Sabeg, is the chief executive of CS. He says that he has received prejudice against him. He is the only person from North Africa to hold a head position in a French company. In the 1990s, Sabeg took over CS as a contractor in the field of secure communications for defense and aerospace. The person whose job he took over was angry. Sabeg recalls, "The establishment, notably the military establishment, did not like it"(Astier, 2005 paragraph 7). Intelligence services wrote reports on Sabeg that included false rumours. He is convinced today that people in the establishment are still trying to get him fired. He said, "In their minds you can't be both Arab and French" ( paragraph 13). The second part of the article talks about two brothers, Abdel and Mohamed Djaiziri, who run a small supermarket chain in Paris. In 2002, they turned the supermarket into a halal shop. The mayor felt that they were making life more difficult for non-Muslims and tried to get the store to close based on health reasons. Things got worse when the chain where they get their products stopped supplying them. They lost all of their customers and went heavily into debt. Two years later the business is still going. The mayor said, "The store is filthy. I want them to go. I want to rehabilitate the square and bring in quality shops" (paragraph 37).
