My name is Brandon Cook and I am a student at Brigham Young University. I am almost 20 years old and just recieved my mission call to the Texas McAllen Mission, Spanish speaking. I enter the Missionary Training Center May 17th, 2006.I like to go golfing, bowling, and snow throwing. In the winter I love to go tubbing in the mountains. I grew up in Layton, Utah and graduated from Northridge High School. I also graduated from their AFJROTC program and recieved an ROTC Scholarship from the Air Force. I took that scholarship and became part of BYU's Air Force ROTC. I have enjoyed my time here at BYU and look forward to coming back here after my mission.
The article I read was entitled, "Spain's Muslims brace for backlash If tied to Al Qaeda, attacks could spark retaliation, they fear." It talks about how Spain is starting to limit imagration of African Islams. In 2002, "There were 1.5 million immigrants in Spain" (Paragraph 1). Most of those imagrants are African Muslims, Morroccans. But now Spain is not letting in so many African Islams due to the recent terrorist activity. For example, Spain just arrested three Moroccans for train bombings in Madrid that killed 200 people. This article also talks about the Morrocans point of veiw on this whole issue. The author interviews a Moroccan named Mrazl. He says that Spanards,
"Criticize us because of who we are and it hurts...We are afriad that the Spanish will always be looking at us with the eye of a hurricane" (Paragraph 6).
Our group's project is on the African Islams migrating into Spain. We will divide our topic into four different parts. The parts are religion, terrorist, history, and personal stories.
